Paisley's Persistence

As I've been catching up on friends' blogs and my email tonight, our dog Paisley has been trying to entice me with her ratty little grey dinosaur. This miniature stuffed toy was in the basement of this house when we moved in, and she immediately began loving it. We thought it was a gross little creature so we banished it to live outdoors, but she has kept it safe from the elements for a year now..it pops up all over the lawn but never gets lost, has been washed by rain, snow, and dog spit..
Sometimes she sneaks it in the house, and tonight is one of those times.
I have been warding off her advances for the better part of an hour, but she wouldn't give up. I finally picked up the dino by it's tail and gave her a puppet show. I made it long and melodramatic, culminating with the dino creeping up to her nose and climbing onto her face.
She sat with rapt attention through all of it, not moving a muscle except to cock an eyebrow at the silly voices coming from her much-loved object. She especially liked the ending when the dino leapt into her jaws with a high pitched cry.
She asked for an encore. I hid the dinosaur.
